Digital Forensics and Cybercrimes
Digital Forensics is a branch of science related to crimes committed through information systems that generally includes the collection and investigation of evidence on digital devices. Although the term digital forensics was originally used as a synonym for computer forensic examinations, it has expanded to include the examination of all devices capable of storing digital data. Many different hardware and software are used for forensics investigations. Forensics methodology is also used in the private sector, such as internal investigations or an understanding of the nature and extent of an unauthorized network attack.
In general, Digital Forensics includes Forensic Computer Investigations, Forensic Network Investigations, Forensic Data Analysis and Forensic Mobile Device Investigations. A typical forensic process involves the collection of evidence, the taking of a forensic image/copy and the examination/analysis of the digital material and the creation of a report based on the results of the investigation.
